The women of GoT are not the faux-feminist creation of a studio, but rather characters that can go toe-to-toe with their male counterparts and often win. That’s not to say, however, that women are considered the equals of men in Westeros and Essos – it’s very clear that the medieval (some would say modern) perception of women as objects and property still holds sway across the Seven Kingdoms. But the trademark of a true heroine here is not that she is unaffected by this injustice, but rather that she excels in spite of it.*
